A domain name, such as medinadomains.com, signifies your own address on the Internet. As no two parties may ever hold identical domain names, it is truly a unique identifier of you or your company. It is how your customers will remember you and find you among the millions of other Web sites on the Internet.
Domain names are the familiar, easy to remember names for computers on the Internet (such as cnn.com, microsoft.com, yahoo.com or medinadomains.com). They correspond to a series of numbers called Internet Protocol [IP] numbers that serve as routing addresses on the Internet.
The Domain Name System (DNS) serves as the addressing system on the Internet, in a similar fashion as the postal or telephone systems do in the physical world.
Without a domain name, web sites either can't be found on the Internet or they are very difficult to find. If you are not found you will not survive on the internet.
Of course, one can always get some free space at somebody else's address, i.e., at community sites like the free sites at Yahoo or places like that. While such group addresses can provide a solution for individuals or small organizations/groups that share the web site with a few individuals, it is not a workable solution for businesses or groups hoping to do business on the net or gain a higher profile. Usually finding those sites involves a long string of words and symbols to get to the correct web site, one missed symbol and you get the dreaded "File Not Found" message. If you want to do serious business on the Internet, you need a registered domain.![]()
When you register a new name, once the registration/transfer is complete the domain name will be associated with the computer on the Internet you designate during the period the registration is in effect. You 'own' the right to use that domain name in any manner you want.
Most people put up a website, use the domain name to point at another website
you already have (domain aliasing), use it to forward their e-mail or simply do
nothing with it.

No. You can host with any host provider you like and still take advantage of our domain pricing. When you register for your domain simply list your current host's nameservers. Your current host should have their DNS information listed somewhere on their FAQ or Support pages.

After registering your domain with us, it is entered into the InterNIC database. Once InterNIC announces that your domain name has been registered, it usually takes about 72-hours before it is active. All internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This is called propagation.
